Changes to the farm and lodge
The Chane Cheese Farm and Lodge has recently been upgraded and can now accommodate more visitors thanks to the completion of a new building filled with light and love. Large glass sliding doors and big windows that overlook the pool emanate an “outdoor” ambiance and allow for in-door dining should the weather in Zululand not be agreeable.
Tastefully decorated with large mirrors and creative artwork the new space is high ceilinged and conducive to all types of weather conditions. A combination of old and new décor the structure is surrounded with good vibes and character and remains cool in summer, warm in winter. Take time to check out the old “Frick” sewing machine, the bonsai trees and potted plants, a charming old piano and shiny copper pots.
The outside wooden deck dining area is still available for windless sunny days and remains a firm favourite for those who enjoy an outdoorsy day.
Arranging a special day, planning a group function or trying to find a suitable venue that can accommodate children is not as easy as it sounds. In fact it can be quite stressful, so why not give the farm a call and arrange your special function with the competent and experienced ladies, Nicky and Carina.

Things to like about Chane Cheese Farm and Lodge
- The newly paved sparkling swimming pool surrounded by eye-pleasing green ferns and palm trees is a cool delight for both children and adults and sometimes the ducks.
- Cheese tours which include a bit of education for the entire family, the milking of a goat and an introduction to cheese making. One is never too old to learn new tricks.
Good solid home-style fare aptly describes the dishes on offer at the restaurant. Satisfy your hunger and choose from a selection of wood oven pizzas or delight in a hamburger cooked to “Diners and Dives” perfection. Try a little self-indulgence for a change and order a slice of homemade lemon meringue or carrot cake. The extensive menu is wholesome and unpretentious and will tantalize the taste buds.
It takes a lot to beat an enchanting farm shop that offers a variety of goodies at a fair price. Canned litchis, honey scotch brittle, ruby grapefruit marmalade, bags and scented candles, “Into Africa” coffee blend, books and notepads, ylang ylang bath fizzes and Soefija’s biltong bukkah. You couldn’t ask for a better shopping experience.
Children and family environment
Chane Cheese Farm is great for children and big on family. A safe environment where children can swim or enjoy the space that allows them to play freely, make some noise and squee. Spending time outdoors with the animals and trees makes for a very happy child. Putt-putt or mini golf provides hours of entertainment and barrels of laughter. Nicky and Phillip have eminent plans to upgrade the playing area and include a child friendly zip line.
The lodge offers self-catering accommodation at a good and reasonable price. Two and four sleeper air-conditioned rooms are available with outside wooden tables suitably placed close to the trees. The rooms are spacious, clean and fitted with showers. Enjoy a morning coffee or an evening beer and absorb the sounds of the farm and don’t think about traffic jams or busy shopping centres. Think about the birds and acacia trees and focus on Earth’s natural light at dawn and dusk.
The best in Zululand just got better
Don’t be misled as Chane Cheese Farm is not only about cheese, cheese platters and goats. Cheese is a part of the experience but not the entirety. The complete whole is pleasurable for children and grannies and uncles and friends, husbands and aunties and babies. It takes a lot to beat the fun in the Zululand sun with community and family orientated people who have a deep-rooted love for the area and its people. Chane Cheese Farm and Lodge is one of the most talked about places to visit and more and more people are chatting about it.
